Serlachius Art Museum

The project was completed as part of a competition for an extension to the existing Joenniemi Manor in Finland, housing the Serlachius Art Museum collection. First and foremost the proposal defers to the landscape and shows respect to Joenniemi and the manor building. Rather than attempt to compete with the manor in scale, the extension is humbly single storey and sunken into the ground to reduce the visual impact on the manor and preserve its views to and from the lake and Taavetinsaari. This was a crucial aspect to the project.
